Top 5 Essential Oils for Meditation


What are the best oils to use during meditation?


Palo Santo

Known as a spiritual oil, it was used by the Incas to purify and cleanse the air of negative energies and for good luck. It’s scent is uplifting to the mind and spirit. 

    


Vetiver

This oil is spiritually grounding, calming and stabilizing. It helps calm the mind and improve focus. Using Vetiver can help you focus on your breathing while calming your mind. In India, it is known as the oil of tranquility. This oil is a highly viscous oil, so you will want to warm it up in your hands or a pocket before trying to pour a drop. 


Lavender

Lavender is well known for being a relaxing and calming oil. It has been documented to improve concentration and mental acuity. Inhaling Lavender in your meditation practice will heighten relaxation and reduce mental stress.


Roman Chamomile

Chamomile is known for being calming and relaxing. It helps minimize anxiety,  irritability and nervousness. It can help focus the mind during meditation. Like chamomile tea, the Roman Chamomile essential oil can help promote an environment of relaxation for you. 


Sandalwood

Sandalwood is known for deep relaxation and spiritual connectedness. It stimulates both the pineal and the pituitary glands. Using Sandalwood in your meditation practice will help you stay grounded and stabilized. 

How should I use these oils to enhance my meditation practice?


  • Put a couple of drops in a diffuser while you meditate.

  • Put a drop in your hands, rub together and cup over your nose and mouth, forming a scent tent. Breathe deeply.

  • Apply to the bottoms of your feet.

  • Add to a reed diffuser.
